A gift to celebrate a wedding, birth, retirement, or birthday, or just for yourself
With your input (photos and stories), I create a mixed-media artwork in combination with my paintings. On paper, on canvas, or in a book
Memories, an ode to... that is what I create, what I call a milestone echo moment
Book: Between the waves
Even with the Dutch words, the book is accessible to everyone because of the 244 pages, only 13 pages contain words, al others are full of visual artwork. In this book, artworks come to life that reflect the unique charm of the Belgian coast. It takes you on a journey along the ten towns that embrace the North Sea.
If you love my art, then you will also love my book.
Drawings from your own childhood, or from a daughter, son, niece,... they pile up.
They lie safely somewhere in a cupboard, too precious to throw away. Because behind every line and every color lies a memory.
I get to work with those drawings and give them a new life in a mixed-media artwork. Each drawing is first carefully photographed so that the original is always preserved. Together, we look at which drawings hold a special meaning. Which colors appeal to you? What does the child love? Which elements should reappear? Perhaps there are also mixed-media works of mine that already appeal to you. With all that information, I create a personal and unique artwork - a tangible memory in which the spontaneity of a child's drawing and my artistic style come together. A work to cherish, today and for many years to come.
Silence Paintwork
Acrylic paint and paste are my favourites on canvas
My faces on paper or canvas do not represent a person, but rather an emotion, a moment. Faces as expression, not as a portrait of someone specific
The moment your smile disappears and your words fall silent. With the next breath, the silence within your being becomes clear. That is the moment I write with my paint
I love bringing texture to the canvas and combining the colors gold and red. Scars give depth, they let us grow and shine even brighter than a golden star. The structure on the canvas reflect the scars, the hair in bright gold as it was a crown to celebrate their essence of being, the essence of vulnerability
About me
My artname is grietgriet, but was born as Griet Cornille, close to the North Sea. The sea and the coastal landscape are still somehow interwoven in my work. It is no coincidence that my first exhibition was titled *Girls of the North Sea*.
I have needed to draw, paint, and write for as long as I can remember. It is as if every emotion I feel seeks a way out - on paper, in color, in an image. For a long time, I mainly made things for myself or for the people close to me. Much originated in small notebooks and on loose sheets of paper.
After years of keeping diaries in words, about ten years ago I began to represent my days in images. Drawings, fragments from books, photographs, and found images grow together into collages and visual stories. The words disappeared, but the stories remained. Only they are no longer fixed: the viewer is free to discover their own meaning within them.
I am a social worker by training. Perhaps that is why I find it so valuable to create for others. For years, I participated in gallery exhibitions, but today I focus primarily on custom work: personal pieces for individuals and unique artworks for companies, in which their story or identity is interwoven with my visual language. Just as I design social projects where the connecting factor is just as important as creativity.
People and expression are the common thread in everything I create - on paper, canvas, or in a book.
